Dear Pleasant Parents,
I know that many of you know that Pleasant lost a cherished member of our family this past weekend. Mr. Jeff Rainey passed away peacefully on September 16th, surrounded by his loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. For those who knew Jeff, you will undoubtedly understand the void his absence leaves; for those who didn't, let me assure you that our community is dimmer without his light.
The loss of Mr. Rainey has weighed heavily on Jeff’s family, on the Pleasant Staff, and on our community. Jeff was a community member (Pleasant graduate, Class of 1991), a devoted husband, and a friend to many.
After listening to the wishes of Jeff’s family, and the needs of our staff, I believe that our staff needs the opportunity to attend Jeff’s funeral on Monday, September 25th. Therefore, our entire school district will be closed on Monday, September 25th. I would like all of you to know that this decision was not made lightly, as I understand that finding childcare will now be a concern for some of our families.
During this difficult time, let's take a page out of Jeff's book by extending kindness, offering support, and being there for one another. To Jeff’s family, we extend our deepest condolences, and please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
In times of loss, communities reveal their true character. Let us come together now to celebrate Jeff's remarkable life and to comfort one another as he would have wanted us to do.
Again, Pleasant Local Schools will be closed on Monday, September 25th to honor Jeff Rainey and support his family.
